“Vitamin D deficiency is a global pandemic that has serious health consequences for children and adults. Improvement in the world’s vitamin D status could significantly reduce risk of many chronic illnesses including cardiovascular diseases, type II diabetes and many deadly cancers as well as infectious diseases including upper respiratory tract infections, influenza and tuberculosis”
Michael Holick, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics at Boston University School of Medicine

Do you know that there is a Day of Vitamin D? This day is celebrated on November 2. The date was established by the Vitamin D Society, Vitamin D Council and GrassrootsHealth to call attention to the global problem of Vitamin D deficiency.

According to the Vitamin D Society, one third of people around the world have Vitamin D deficiency, which is a threat to the world’s population. The question is that Vitamin D plays critical part in metabolic processes and its deficiency leads to the development of many diseases. But, despite the fact that we know about the importance of Vitamin D in maintaining our health, we do not get enough Vitamin D from food and from the sun. The reason is that there are not too many food products containing Vitamin D and we rarely stay under the sun. Almost all the time we stay insight at home or at work. We wear closed things. In addition, many people avoid being in the sun because of the higher risk of oncology.

The Day of Vitamin D is a reminder to all of us of the importance to maintain an optimal level of Vitamin D of at least 30 mg/ml. This is an issue for everyone in modern environmental and social conditions.

It is not necessary to take cholecalciferol every day for maintaining the level of vitamin D in the blood of at least 30 ng / ml. Dose strength of cholecalciferol 50 000 IU 1-2 times per month (at the rate of 1500-4000 IU per day) can be used for preventive treatment. In case of severe deficiency, higher doses may be prescribed by a doctor.
